New TikTok Sister App and Off-App Metric Debut; Instagram Shifts to Livestream Popularity Battle

Imagine TikTok, only European style.

It’s like a whole new app: TikTok Pro is launching in Germany, Portugal, and soon Spain, supposedly designed as a more curated, “joyful” space. Users can earn virtual “Sunshine” by engaging with charity content, which TikTok turns into real-world donations. Quite the incentive.

Safety-wise, it mirrors TikTok’s main app, but Sunshine is for users 18+ only. It’ll be interesting to see how much traction the new app gets…

On and off: TikTok is also planning to launch Engaged Session, a new post-click metric that lets you retarget users who spend at least 10 seconds on a landing page. The goal is to track intent beyond the click, and early results show lower costs and higher session quality. Sounds useful… if hard to imagine under Europe’s GDPR and digital acts.

Instagram, meanwhile, is clamping down on who can go Live.

You now need at least 1,000 followers to start a livestream, which cuts out smaller accounts that have relied on IG Live to connect with niche audiences. There’s no official reasoning from Meta, but it lines up with other platforms tightening live-streaming requirements to reduce moderation obstacles.

Just another reason for you or your clients to hit that coveted 1,000 followers milestone.
